With a few hints from the bellman at Xcaret Arte we found this secret speakeasy our first night (always the best night!). Very fun cocktails and music in a gorgeous bar off a basement garage.
Last night, I found myself at "deseo", a club in the gorgeous Hotel Xcaret Arte, nestled in the heart of Playa del Carmen. The name alone, "Desire" in Spanish, was enough to pique my interest, and I was not disappointed. At the bar, I was greeted by El Torito, a skilled bartender was introduced to a new way of enjoying tequila suggested by a beautiful couple from Jalisco, apparently, this is the way . He served me 1800 tequila reposado with a full cup of club soda, a different take on the classic tequila shot. I was hesitant at first, but after learning that this was the preferred way to drink tequila for a lovely couple from Jalisco, I decided to give it a try. And let me tell you, it was a game-changer. No hangover, no headache, just a smooth and enjoyable drinking experience. I'll definitely be drinking my tequila this way from now on. As the night went on, I had the pleasure of meeting people from all over Mexico, including Jalisco, Mexico City, Guerrero, and beyond. With every drink that passed, however, I found myself becoming increasingly unclear about who or what was around me. But one thing was for sure - the dancing and singing didn't stop until 4am. It was a sight to behold, watching the vibrant youth of Mexico come alive on the dance floor. I couldn't help but compare myself to a bird watcher, stumbling upon a forest full of beautiful "little birds" in full flight. And what a crowd it was. I had the pleasure of mingling with the super nice folks from "Revol" at a company gathering, as well as getting to know the vibrant young ladies and gentlemen who knew how to party like nobody's business. When the night finally came to a close, I felt like a true winner. And to cap it all off, I was even invited to a private room in the exclusive part of the resort (I won't say the name, but let's just say it was pretty damn fancy). As I stumbled out of the club in the wee hours of the morning, I couldn't help but reflect on one interesting fact that I had witnessed firsthand - the youth of Mexico love to line dance to Mexican country music. It's a sight that makes me feel like I'm getting old, but hey, I can't deny that it was a vibrant and unforgettable night.

This bar pops off at 11 with loud music and a ceiling light show, seems like the only afters spot in this area of the resort. Its a little hidden in typical speakeasy fashion. Follow the red lights on the ceiling or listen for the bass to get here
